Heartbreak

The girls have been looking forward to a soccer tournament in St. George for months. To prepare, they've been going to 2 hour training sessions every Saturday night. Savannah has been going to an additional training session every Saturday morning from 6-7 a.m.

Thursday morning, Savannah woke up and didn't feel much like eating. I thought this was because she stayed up too late (Tyler had to tell her to turn out her light at about 10 p.m.). She came home from school and told Martha that her school Valentine's Party was boring (so unlike her) and she kind of moped around the rest of the evening. She said her throat hurt, but when I looked at it, it didn't look particularly red. By that night, she was pretty miserable. I sent her to bed with some Chloroseptic and Motrin. I was worried about strep, but I thought if I took her that early, a rapid-strep test would be negative.

Friday morning, Tyler took her to the doctor and she did have strep. They gave her a shot of penicillin, but gave us the bad news that she would still be contagious until noon on Saturday. So the trip to St. George was out.

After getting the news on Friday, she was pretty devastated, even though she felt pretty awful. She cried for hours and didn't want to eat (we weren't sure if that was because of being sick or disappointed). It seems so ironic that she, the one who had worked so hard for months, would be the one that didn't get to go (Emmaline wasn't looking forward to the trip nearly as much and didn't work nearly as hard.). Today, she is doing a lot better. Martha has taken to the craft store and Tyler will take her somewhere fun tonight.

We can't wait to hear how everything goes for Emmaline at the tournament.

That is to sad! Poor Savannah! All that hard work! :( Hopefully she can go next year. (stupid strep)

Savannah so sorry you are sick. YOu made a good choice to stay home. Do Dr.s still say to take special care of step or Rhumatic fever may develop? That's what they used to say. Hope staying home wasn't that bad.
