First Piano Recital

So Savannah and Emmaline had their first piano recital on Saturday. They've been taking now for about 2 months and I think it was a great learning experience for them. As I've tried to get them to practice the songs about 50 times a day, I don't think they understood how important it is to have a piece "better than perfect" so that when nerves kick in, you can still perform. After we got to the house, Emmaline took a minute to try out the piano and missed almost every note. She turned to me, with tears in her eyes, and said, "I don't want to do this anymore!" Luckily she worked up the nerve, but afterwards said, "I can do better than that and next time I will." We'll watch this video a lot before the next recital as a reminder! I think they are doing great, though. Their teacher said Savannah moved through the first book more quickly than any of her other students.

OH GIRLS you did GREAT how wonderful that we get to see this!! I Love that you are learning to play, I'm glad you are going to stick with it because, I believe you will never be sorry you did. It can be so expressive to your emotions. We are very proud of YOU! Love Grandma and Grandad

I now wish that I had kept up with my lessons instead of quitting when I was Savannah's age. Just some advice for Emmaline and Savannah, as they obviously have some talent...

I can't believe they've only been playing for two months! That is incredible. I don't have many students that don't make mistakes at recitals but the test of a true pianist is how well they recover and they did marvelously. GREAT JOB!
