I want candy!

I've never been good at making any kind of candy except fudge. I don't know if it's that I've never spent the money on a decent candy thermometer or what- but the process just baffles me. Emmaline has been dying to try to make taffy. I told her she should look on the internet to see if she could find a recipe that people thought was easy or had other helpful hints. Here is how the recipe that she chose started out:

"Let’s get this out of the way: Don’t try to make salt water taffy. It’s very tedious. If you do it by hand your arms will be dead when you’re done.
Seriously, if you like salt water taffy go somewhere and buy it. If you want to see it made, take a tour. This was a total pain in the … arms, actually. We won’t be trying this again.

But if you still want to- and how could anyone resist after that buildup? - or, if you just want to point and laugh, here's how we did it."

Hmmm- we should try this, right? Well, we did- and as expected, it didn't work. I think she had fun trying, though and Tucker is always eager to help with one of Emmaline's projects.

This week we are missing her. She had a week off of school which happened to coincide with LaVar and Judy visiting the great-grandparents in Fallon so we sent her off. She was pretty nervous for the plane ride by herself (she had crumpled up her boarding pass so much by the time it was ready to get on the plane that the computer couldn't read it) but I think she's having lots of fun!
