Pioneer Trek

Lots of posts for Savannah lately, but she is one busy girl... so I'm a busy mom!
She left for Trek on Thursday morning. I was almost glad to see her go... it meant I was done getting ready for it! Tucker has been really fussy and it took a long time to get everything done. Savannah helped with the skirts.
But I was up late Wednesday night finishing the "bloomers," extra bonnet and apron. I was so tired and trying to hurry so quickly that I was making tons of mistakes. I finally finished at 2 a.m. I was going over the checklist and realized that I needed to add an extra pair of shoes. Then I remembered that Savannah told me she was missing a shoe. I kind of ignored her because my kids can seriously look in the shoe basket, right at a shoe, and not see it. But after looking for 30 minutes, I concluded she really had lost it. Lucky she wears the same size as me. Of course, when I walked into my room Tucker was hungry. I fed him and went to sleep until 4:30 a.m. when I had to take Savannah to the Stake Center. I left her there and got home at 5:30 a.m. and found Tucker hungry again. Then Oliver woke up at 6:30 a.m. Let's just say I wasn't the most patient that day!
Here is a picture of one of the outfits. Not a great picture (it was EARLY). I need to lengthen the apron... I made it after she was asleep and had to guess on the length.
She said she had a lot of fun but has been kind of sketchy on the details. Her "Ma" did tell me that on the second day she was supposed to "die." (They really do try to do a fairly accurate depiction of the Martin/Willie handcart trek.) Apparently Savannah kind of refused to die... i.e. she continued to talk to everyone and insisted on helping push the cart. Can't say I blame her. I'm not sure she learned anything (maybe 11 is a bit young to go), but I'm sure it will be a memory forever.

you and that sewing machine, always late-night buddies! the run-down of your day makes me tired just reading it!

That sounds so interesting. Is it for just a day? I'm so impressed by your sewing skills! By the way, Savannah's hair looks so cute!

It lasts for 3 days and they hike for about 10 miles and camp out along the pioneer trail.
