When it rains, it pours- and I'm not talking about Utah's recent weather

So we were all set to have Oliver's birthday party on Saturday morning since, with reunions and Tyler's schedule, that seemed to be the best time to celebrate. At about 11 p.m. on Friday night, I was discussing with Tyler all that I had to do (and thinking I wasn't going to be doing much sleeping) when Oliver begins to cry, runs to the bathroom and throws up everywhere. Although I'm not as paranoid as Martha, I'm no fan of the stomach flu and decided to cancel, on the spot. Turns out that was the only incident and he didn't have fever or any other symptoms the next day- but I'm still glad I canceled. I don't want to take chances and I wasn't ready.

Instead, we went to Savannah's soccer tournament on Saturday. We spent a few hours running around to games before coming home. After we got home, Tyler did some work on the side of our house. Water has been leaking into our basement and we're trying to seal it off with roofing tar.

About that time, Tyler got a call from the lady in Seattle that did his last show saying she was ready for his paintings (they are opening a new location). The only time he could come was Sunday, so we quickly began cleaning out his car (since we'll be leaving for the California Reunion when he gets back) and getting him ready to go.

At some point, Tyler had to go back inside. The scene he was met with was not pretty. You know how Oliver loves to be a "worker guy"? Somehow he got the lid to the roofing tar open and began "helping" paint the foundation of the house. I think he realized he had a problem and went inside to clean up. You guessed it... he tracked it up the sidewalk, on the door mat, across the wood floor, over the tile floor, into the bathroom, all over the fixtures there as well as all over himself.
This picture really doesn't do the size of the mess justice! Luckily paint thinner is an amazing cleaner. We all got into the act and had it cleaned up fairly quickly- even his clothes.

Now if we can just get the smell out of the house! So we got Tyler off and he should be back Tuesday so we can have a party for Oliver leave for the reunion on Thursday.

So glad that Oliver didn't get what Will had. I felt so bad!! Will's better now, but it took about 5 days for him to be back to normal.

Charlotte, I don't know how you do it!!

Okay, I know I just commented, but Oliver is over here and said the funniest thing. My boys have to clean the toy room, but I said Oliver didn't have to help. Oliver said he didn't have to help because he didn't make the mess. I said, "But do you make messes at your house?" and he said, "Well, I tried to paint and help daddy. Then I made a mess." I said, "Was your mom happy or sad about that?" His eyes got real big and he said, "No, she was MAD!"
