It's hard to believe that Savannah is done with Junior High! The school had a big graduation ceremony at the City Library. The kids chose which teachers they wanted to have speak. They did a really great job. In fact, I've been trying to figure out a family "motto" for a while now and heard something in one of the talks that is perfect. The theme for SLarts this year was "Valuing Place." They discussed the evolution of society throughout the ages and included a section on the Old West and the "cowboy creed." I can't remember exactly the context, but she talked about the idea of "riding for the brand." I LOVED that... so our family motto is now "Ride for the Brand." More on that as I develop it.
I was amazed at the way the girls were dressed for the graduation. I guess they took the opportunity to be really grown up, and dress as such. Spike heels and strapless dresses ruled the day. I couldn't have been prouder of my "little girl." When I looked across at all of the other kids, I was so glad that Savannah has made the choices she has. When she started the school, many of the people she was friends with then are now in the "popular" crowd. It's amazing how much kids can change in four years. I'm really pleased with the changes Savannah has made, even though it meant changing friends.
As they started the presentation of the diplomas, one of the girls started crying. I thought she was being quite dramatic until I realized that Savannah was crying too! In fact, I've included the above picture, even though it is blurry, because it is the only one where she isn't crying her eyes out. I know she is nervous about the big change to High School, but I'm sure she'll do great. In some ways I hate for her to grow up, but it is really fun to watch and share in the adventures she is beginning.

Ok this is weird but when I first saw that picture, I teared up so much I had to wait awhile to read it. She is getting to be all grown up, drat! I also noticed right off that only Savannah is wearing a modest dress. Then you wrote about that fact.
Good for you GIRL!!
We love you very very much. xxoo
Congraulations on Graduation Savannah! Looking forward to the fun times ahead.
I can't even imagine having a girl so grown up! Congratulations Savannah!
