Top Ten of 2009

As usual, our family spent the first Family Night of the year making a list of the top 10 events of the past year. I was kind of surprised at how easily the list was made. 2009 was no piece of cake for our family! From having no income for the first 4 months of the year to having our Dad leave the last two months of the year... I thought a top 10 of the things I don't want to repeat might be easier to list. Instead, the ideas flowed so quickly that Emmaline suggested we might want to make it a top 15 so we didn't have to leave anything out! But tradition is tradition, so here we have the top 10 of 2009, in no particular order.

1. We went on trips to Virginia, Arkansas, Mexico, and Nevada.
2. Tucker learned to walk.
3. Oliver started kindergarten.
4. Tyler got into "A" Gallery.
5. Mama got Lasik surgery on her eyes.
6. Savannah became a teenager.
7. Emmaline, once again, got stitches and glue to add to her growing list (I think we're up to 8 now?!).
8. We got chickens.
9. Mama got released from being the music leader for the kids at church (after 4 + years!!).
10. Tyler went to the Philippines to work on an LDS temple.

As I was reading last January's post, I was reminded of the scripture Tyler and I chose for the year.

2 Timothy 1: 7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

That was so great! I wish we would have used it more. I think I got so wrapped up in the stress of the beginning of the year, I forgot we had chosen that. We haven't chosen one yet for this year. My conversations with Tyler are often limited (the time difference is a killer!), so I think, in the mean time- I'll work more with that one. Bring it on 2010- we're ready!!

Interesting how the contrast in life makes the sweet things that much sweeter don't you think? I 'm always amazed how right there in the middle of all the muck are the best of times. I hope this year is a great one too!
