Have you ever been playing a game and another player tries to take you out, even when you aren't a threat to them and you aren't even close to winning? This morning we went outside to find that Tyler's car had been broken in to. I felt like yelling, "We weren't even IN the game!" I've refrained from discussing our current financial situation because, as Emmaline keeps saying, "If one more person says something about the economy, I'm going to scream!" Anyway, suffice to say our industry has come to a screeching halt.
As I was thinking about the feeling I had, (kind of like being kicked in the teeth when you're already on the ground) I suddenly realized that I also had a song running through my head. "You can't keep a good man down." I just had to laugh- I think my sub conscience has a funny sense of humor. I was looking for the lyrics to that song (not very applicable, by the way) because I'm pretty sure I've never even heard that song in its entirety.
As I did that, another song started running through my head- "When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed. When you are discouraged thinking all is lost. Count your many blessings, name them one by one. And it will surprise you what the Lord has done."
We are so incredibly blessed. Although it was annoying to replace the window- thank goodness nothing in the car was stolen (there was a LOT in there). I have certainly been getting back to basics recently and realizing how little I actually need. Most days, I don't even go anywhere. Somehow my days used to often be filled with errands for things that just couldn't wait. I'm finding that, not only can they wait- I don't need to do them in the first place! Although we can't continue in our current situation indefinitely, I am enjoying a bit of simplification. Hopefully I can keep a bit of that when my life returns to "normal" (as it most CERTAINLY will =).

Oh, I cannot believe this! I'm so sorry that this happened, and I know that things are going to turn out fine, even though this is a hard time. There is something refreshing about getting back to basics. Love you! Georgia
Im so sorry that happened. But I can honestly say I know the feeling. And you described it perfectly. I think Megan can relate too. Only I think she doesn't understand the game yet!Love ya lots too :)
That stinks. Really really stinks. I know how you feel because the Collings family economy has been bad for going on 12 years now. We're kind of glad to have a little company with the rest of the country. Maybe one day I'll be able to cook out of something other than my "Cook More with Less" cookbook.
I can relate to not running as many errands! Now that we are living the student life, I feel if I havn't ran any errands I have accomplished a lot by not spending any money. I have to avoid the mall all together! I use to be such a shopaholic. Now I have to be super thrifty. Things have changed for us as well. Hopefully I can shop again, but I do love how my life has simplified as well. This economy is the pitts. I hope things change. I can so relate.
I so know how you feel. I remember having our car stolen in Italy and we absolutely NO WAY of replacing it. It was a nightmare. But, it did work out. I feel a lot less pressure after we have cut back financially as well. It's kind of a satisfying feeling in a way. I think, as you say, not running constant errands, etc. is going to be good for everyone in the long run.
Hey guys, I feel for you. Mark Twain once said "there is no shame in poverty-it's just a dang ( word replaced for our younger readers) inconvenience. And by poverty I make the statement more in reference to myself. It makes me laugh and helps me gain a little perspective which gets us through most anything. Hope things turn around for you.
"Well you know those times
When you feel like there's a sign there on your back
Says I don't mind if ya kick me
Seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You'd think they can't get worse than that
And then they do"
(The lyrics to one of my favorite songs- especially these days! "If You're Going Through Hell" by Rodney Atkins. If you haven't heard it, you should listen to it. Good luck- I REALLY mean that.)
